Shawn Delierre and David Phillips carried home interest through to the last eight of the Winnipeg Building & Decorating Ltd Manitoba Open after surviving the first round of the $15,000 PSA Tour squash event at Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club in Winnipeg, Canada.

Delierre, the third seed who is ranked 63 in the world, defeated compatriot Tyler Hamilton, a qualifier from Dundas, Ontario, 11-6, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5.  The match was a little too close for comfort for the 26-year-old from Montreal.

"Tyler was coming off two tough matches in the qualifying round so I have to admit I may have been a bit too confident," said Delierre.  "But he made some nice shots and got me a little bit worried. I’m certainly going to approach my next match with a different mindset. I really want to do well here."

Delierre will face Martin Knight of New Zealand.  The seventh seed eliminated Robin Clarke of Kanata, Ontario, 11-6, 11-2, 13-11.

Phillips, seeded eighth, beat qualifier Cesar Salazar of Mexico in the maximum five games 11-4, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-3.  Phillips faces fourth seed Campbell Grayson of New Zealand in his quarterfinal.  Grayson bounced Dave Glass of Winnipeg 11-9, 12-10, 11-6.
