Egyptian Professional Squash Association member Amr Mansi is the inspiration behind a major new PSA Super Series event which will take place in the Red Sea resort of El Gouna in October.

Following qualifying in Cairo, the El Gouna International Open will be staged in El Gouna from 18-24 October, boasting a $142,500 prize-fund.

The new championship will be the second PSA Super Series 2010 event in Egypt, following the $150,000 Sky Open in Cairo from 17-22 May.

"This year, the squash world will be introduced to a whole new concept that will both broaden its exposure and strengthen its stance in the sports arena," said tournament promoter Amr Mansi, Managing Director of I Property.

"The El Gouna International 2010 will host the world's top ranking squash players who will be competing in the exquisite setting of Egypt's most exclusive Red Sea town, El Gouna. I Property, along with Orascom Development, the tournament's title sponsor, promise to create and deliver an exceptional event that will, without a doubt, leave its mark on the squash landscape."

Lee Beachill, COO of the PSA, added:  "We are delighted to be able to announce the registration of the El Gouna International as part of our Super Series level of events for 2010.  With the popularity of squash in Egypt rapidly increasing, we feel the addition of a second major event in the country can only be positive.

"We would like to congratulate Amr Mansi and his team for putting together a strong proposal for inclusion on this year’s Super Series calendar and we are currently in negotiations with Amr with a view to a multiyear agreement with the PSA.

"We look forward to assisting Amr over the next few months to help make the El Gouna International as successful as possible."
