Scot Alan Clyne marked up his fourth successive straight games win in the Paddy 'Whack' Walsh West of Ireland Open to secure the $8,000 PSA World Tour squash title in its fourth year at the Galway Lawn Tennis Club in Galway, Ireland.
The 23-year-old top seed from Edinburgh reached the final after ending the run of Jose Facchini in the semi-finals, beating the unseeded Italian 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.
His opponent was Piedro Schweertman, the fourth seeded Dutchman who was celebrating his third Tour final appearance this year after also beating an unseeded opponent, Jonathan Harford, in the last four round.
"Clyne started like a whirlwind and stormed into an early one-nil lead, before Schweertman found his rhythm in the second - but whatever shot he played, Clyne got to it and won the rally," explained event spokesman Edwin Brennan.
"In the third game it was Clyne who again got the best start and got an early lead, but Schweertman refused to give up. Halfway through the third game, the players were level, but Clyne stepped up a gear and ran off the eventual winner in 30 minutes."
The 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 victory marks the third PSA Tour title of Clyne's career, and comes only a few days after the Inverness-born Scottish number one celebrated a career-high world No65 ranking.
