Santiago squash star Borja Golan delighted his home town supporters by upsetting his fourth-seeded first round opponent in the Squash Santiago Open - Santiago City Trophy, the $31,175 PSA World Tour event at the Central Area Shopping Center in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela.

The 27-year-old former world No10, making his Tour comeback after knee surgery, defeated England's No4 seed Jonathan Kemp 11-9, 11-5, 11-13, 11-8 in 47 minutes. Kemp, the world No27 from Halifax, is also on a comeback trail after a hip operation in July.

Golan, the Santiago Open champion in 2008, now faces fellow unseeded opponent Mohammed Abbas, the former world No13 from Egypt who stunned England's sixth seed Tom Richards 6-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-8. Abbas, 29, is also battling to rediscover his former form after a long-term foot injury.

There was a further surprise in the top half of the draw where unseeded South African Stephen Coppinger dismissed Australia's seventh seed Ryan Cuskelly 5-11, 11-9, 11-1, 11-5.

The 26-year-old from Cape Town now lines up against England's Adrian Grant - but the top-seeded Londoner looked set to become the event's biggest casualty after losing the first two games to French qualifier Gregoire Marche.

But the experienced left-hander, ranked 16 in the world, reclaimed the upper hand before closing out the match 7-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 after 63 minutes.

Borja Golan (ESP) v Mohammed Abbas (EGY)
