A trio of qualifiers progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Women's Coronation London Open after first round upsets in the $10,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at the Cumberland Lawn Tennis & Squash Club in north London.

Welsh qualifier Tesni Evans and England's Laura Hill will ensure that an outsider will make the last four. Evans, an 18-year-old from Rhyl competing in only her third Tour event, beat eighth-seeded Slovakian Linda Hruzikova 9-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8.

Evans will now face fellow qualifier Laura Hill, the 34-year-old who took time away from her fire-fighting duties in Derbyshire to earn the event's biggest upset - a 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 win over third-seeded compatriot Fiona Moverley.

And England's Sarah-Jane Perry became the third qualifier to survive the opening round when the 20-year-old from Kenilworth beat Australia's No6 seed Sarah Cardwell 11-8, 11-5, 11-9.

Top seed Emma Beddoes is on course to become the third successive English winner of the title. The 25-year-old world No23 from Nottingham beat English qualifier Zephanie Curgenven 11-4, 11-3, 11-4.
