England's Nick Matthew could become only the second player to become PSA Player of the Year for a second time according to the Professional Squash Association nominations for the World Squash Awards later this week in Rotterdam.

The seventh annual World Squash Awards, which will be presented on Saturday 5th November at the Official Dinner of the World Open Rotterdam 2011, will see the identities of the official Men's & Women's Tour Players of the Year being announced, along with other general international awards.

The PSA board has voted on the PSA Player of the Year and also the PSA Young Player of the Year.

2010 PSA Player of the Year Nick Matthew, the world No1, is nominated for the award again this year, alongside Dutchman Laurens Jan Anjema and Egyptians Ramy Ashour and Mohamed El Shorbagy.

The PSA Young Player of the Year nominees include Marwan El Shorbagy (Egypt), Nicolas Mueller (Switzerland) and Ivan Yuen (Malaysia).

"Once again, it has been an incredibly competitive year on the PSA World Tour," said PSA Chief Operating Officer Lee Beachill. "Since the World Squash Awards last year in New York, Ramy, Nick, Amr (Shabana) and Gregory (Gaultier) have all won major World Series events and a number of other players have made an impact on the circuit - which has made this decision harder than ever.

"The players continue to raise the bar year on year, adding to the excitement for squash fans around the world," added the former world number one.
