Top seed Shahier Razik held off a determined challenge from Malaysian Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan in the final of the ReidBuilt Homes Edmonton Open at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton in the Canadian province of Alberta to keep the PSA World Tour Challenger 15 squash title in home hands.

It was in the semi-finals that Razik, the Canadian national champion from Toronto, defeated fellow countryman Shawn Delierre, defending champion, in straight games.

In the other semi, Adnan saw off Ryan Cuskelly - but it took 88 minutes for the No2 seed from Kuala Lumpur to see off the third-seeded Australian 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 12-10.

But the Malaysian show no ill effects in the final as he took the opening game - and then, after Razik drew level, the third for the loss of just two points.

However world No31 Razik, no stranger to lengthy battles on a squash court, dug deep to reel in the next two games to record a popular 5-11, 11-9, 2-11, 11-9, 11-6 title victory over the world No37 after 76 minutes.

"Tonight's match was by far the best final that we've ever witnessed here at the Edmonton Open," said a jubilant Jeff Williams, the club's Head Squash Professional.

The win is Razik's second PSA Tour title of the year - and the 22nd of his career.
