Grant, 22, a former European Junior champion from London but now based in Halifax in Yorkshire, overcame the 26-year-old world No20 from Melbourne 15-12 17-15 15-12 to set up a quarter-final clash with top-seeded Frenchman Thierry Lincou. Unseeded South African Rodney Durbach also produced an upset to reach the last eight - beating England's 8th seed Stephen Meads 15-11 17-15 15-11.
