Nicol David Restores Domestic Order In Malaysian Open

Nicol David, the former world No16 who is fighting her way back up the women's world squash rankings after taking a layoff last year, pulled off one of the most significant wins in her comeback when she beat compatriot Sharon Wee in the first round of the Mulpha-Head Women's Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

David, the former twice world junior champion, had to endure two rounds of qualifying before earning her place in the first round against Wee, the No8 seed who has taken over from David as the highest-placed Malaysian in the world rankings.

Hundreds thronged to pack the galleries to witness the 'local derby' - many having come with high expectations of a close and exciting match.  To their disappointment, however, it was a one-sided affair, as David, despite languishing at 39 in the rankings, stormed to a 9-3 9-1 9-2 victory in less than 45 minutes.

Nicol will now face England's third seed Jenny Tranfield who beat compatriot Jenny Duncalf 9-6 9-6 9-2.
