Twin Break Puts Power Out of World Open

The accident sustained by world No4 Jonathon Power during last week's Qatar Classic in Doha has now resulted in the Canadian's withdrawal from next week's Bank Alfalah Men's World Open Squash Championship in Lahore, Pakistan.

Power was admitted to a hospital in Doha after breaking the little finger on his left hand following a fall during his first round match against England's Nick Matthew.

Power's Canadian management have since confirmed that the player suffered two fractures - one to the finger and one to a small bone between the finger and the wrist.  He had five screws inserted into his hand during the surgery and has been told to refrain from physical activity for at least six weeks.

The 1998 world champion will be replaced as fourth seed by Frenchman Thierry Lincou, who now faces Pakistan's Shahid Zaman in the opening round.

Further changes in the draw, revised by the seedings of the players below Power, see England's Lee Beachill elevated to eighth seed.  Fresh from his unexpected triumph in the Qatar Classic, Beachill now meets a qualifier in the Lahore opener - and is drawn in the same quarter as No2 seed John White, the world No2 from Scotland whom he beat in the Doha final.

Australia's Paul Price becomes 16th seed and takes on compatriot Michael Corren in the first round, while formerly unseeded Italian Davide Bianchetti becomes the 32nd seed and slips into Price's old slot to face Welshman Gareth Jones.
