Briggs Beats Jans In Pittsburgh Upset

England's Lauren Briggs, the seventh seed, claimed an unexpected place in the semi-finals of the Women's Pittsburgh Squash Invitational when she knocked out top-seeded Canadian Melanie Jans 9-5 4-9 9-7 9-5 in the quarter-finals in Pittsburgh, USA.

The 24-year-old from Essex goes on to face another Canadian Alana Miller after the unseeded player beat Guyana's Nicolette Fernandes 9-3 9-3 9-3.

There will also be English interest in the other semi-final after fourth seed Suzie Pierrepont twice had to come from behind to defeat Egypt's No8 seed Eman El Amir 9-10 9-3 6-9 9-2 9-7.  The 19-year-old from Brighton in Sussex will now face second-seeded Australian Melissa Martin who beat Canada's 6th seed Marnie Baizley 9-4 9-6 9-7.
