Grant Gets Gaultier In Swedish Open Upset

Unseeded Englishman Adrian Grant claimed the only upset on the opening day's play in the Catella Swedish Open Squash Championship when he overcame Frenchman Gregory Gaultier, the sixth seed, in four games in Linköping.

Grant, a former European Junior champion from London and now based in Halifax in Yorkshire, needed 75 minutes to get the better of the world No11 from Aix-en-Provence 15-12 9-15 15-8 15-10.

World No21 Grant now faces Egypt's 3rd seed Karim Darwish, who successfully began a campaign to win his third successive PSA Tour title this year with a 15-7 15-8 15-9 victory over English qualifier Alister Walker in 31 minutes.

Davide Bianchetti was unable to reproduce the form which saw him cause the biggest upset in December's World Open in Pakistan when he ousted world No1 Peter Nicol in the second round.  In his first tournament since then, the Italian lost 15-14 15-13 15-12 in 80 minutes - the longest match of the day - to fourth seed Joseph Kneipp.

The Australian now meets Nick Matthew after the fifth seed beat fellow Englishman Joey Barrington 15-8 15-8 17-16.
