Malik Marches On In Malaysia

Unseeded Welshwoman Tegwen Malik took just 19 minutes to sink her second successive seed in the Malaysian Airlines Kuala Lumpur Squash Open to reach the semi-finals of the WISPA World Tour event in Malaysia.

After a first round victory over Hong Kong's fourth seed Rebecca Chiu, the Asian Games champion who was a semi-finalist last year, Malik today (Friday) trounced local star Sharon Wee, the sixth seed and the other beaten semi-finalist in 2003, 9-0 9-3 9-2 in the quarter-finals.

The 29-year-old from Swansea will now face home favourite Nicol David, the No2 seed from Penang who despatched Ireland's Madeline Perry 9-4 3-9 9-3 9-0.

In the men's event, top seed Tommy Berden is just one win away from reaching the final for the second year in a row.  The 24-year-old from the Netherlands beat India's No7 seed Ritwik Bhattacharya 15-10 15-4 15-11 and now goes on to meet fellow countryman Laurens Jan Anjema, the third seed who beat Australia's Cameron White in straight games
