Atkinson & El Hindi Capture KL Titles

Netherlands' top seed Vanessa Atkinson and the second-seeded Egyptian Wael El Hindi won the titles in the Malaysian Airlines Kuala Lumpur Squash Open after four-game victories in the finals at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil in Malaysia.

El Hindi, from Cairo, faced an unexpected opponent in the final after Dutch third seed Laurens Jan Anjema came through the semi-final against fellow countryman Tommy Berden without striking a ball.  The top seed was forced to concede the match as the result of an injury to the metarcarpal bone in his right hand.

In the final, the Egyptian beat Anjema 15-2 7-15 15-11 15-10 in 52 minutes to record his fourth PSA Tour title win.

Anjema's defeat was tempered by Dutch success in the women's event, where top seed Vanessa Atkinson, the seven-times Dutch champion from The Hague, disappointed local fans when she beat Malaysian squash queen Nicol David 9-0 9-7 1-9 9-2 in 31 minutes.

David, the world No8 from Penang who is currently based in the Netherlands, was fully stretched in her semi-final against Tegwen Malik.  The unseeded Welshwoman twice led in the match before David, the No2 seed, delighted the crowd with a 8-10 10-8 7-9 9-7 9-5 victory.
