Shahid & Majid Ensure Local Interest In COAS Final

Further giant-killing victories in today's (Monday) quarter-finals of the Chief Of the Army Staff (COAS) Squash International will lead to Pakistanis Shahid Zaman and Majid Khan meeting each other in the semi-finals, thus ensuring local interest in the final in Islamabad.

Unseeded Shahid Zaman made his breakthrough in the first round when he beat Egypt's defending champion Karim Darwish after the in-form top seed retired injured after three games.  In the quarter-finals, the 21-year-old from Quetta removed another Egyptian, unseeded Hisham Mohammed Ashour 15-13 11-15 15-13 15-9 in 42 minutes.

Majid Khan, a 20-year-old qualifier from Peshawar, upset Shahid's cousin Farrukh Zaman, the No8 seed, in the first round - then despatched last year's runner-up Mohammed Abbas in the quarter-finals when the third seed retired injured midway through the third game.

The other semi-final will feature England's sixth seed Adrian Grant and seventh-seeded Egyptian Wael El Hindi, the shock survivor of a tough battle with compatriot and second seed Omar Elborolossy in a 17-16 17-16 9-15 17-14 scoreline.
