Grainger 'Reads The Signs' And Takes A Break

The USA's world No4 Natalie Grainger, who has struggled with illness at recent events on the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA) World Tour, has decided that she needs to withdraw from competition for a period to fully regain her health before rejoining the Tour.

"My health has steadily deteriorated in the last year and I have to read the signs," said the 26-year-old Washington-based player to WISPA.  "My body is continually breaking down and I have to take a longer period out to fully recover and get myself ready to compete again."

After trying to compete in the Qatar Airways Challenge last week in Doha with an infection coupled with the onset of flu, Grainger has now withdrawn from the Washington Summit this week and from the entry list for the Texas Open at the end of the month.  The WISPA President will spend time resting with her family and "start a reasonably-paced recovery-led training plan".

She will decide whether she is able to take her place at the WISPA Grand Prix Finals, from 21-25 April, in the coming weeks.
