Marathon Battlers Barrington & Corren In Ontario Final

After surviving two of the longest matches in the event, Australia's top seed Mike Corren and England's second seed Joey Barrington will meet in the men's final of the BMO Nesbitt Burns Ontario Open Squash Championships in Ottawa, Canada.  By contrast, the women's final will feature Canada's third seed Runa Reta and fourth seed Eman El Amir after both of the top two seeds fell at the penultimate hurdle.

It took Barrington, the 25-year-old son of squash legend Jonah Barrington, exactly two hours to overcome promising young Mexican Eric Galvez 5-15 15-8 15-7 9-15 15-9 in the quarter-finals, before having to face Ireland's John Rooney in the semi-finals.  After taking the opening game, the fourth seed was overcome by a calf injury and forced to retire in the middle of the third game - leading Barrington through to his second PSA Tour final in two weeks.

The other men's semi-final proved to be a punishing encounter for Corren, who twice had his lead stolen by England's Alex Stait before he finally defeated the third seed 15-12 15-17 15-9 2-15 15-8 in 80 minutes.

The seeding predicted local interest in the women's final, but this was eventually provided not by twice Canadian National champion Melanie Jans, the second seed, but by third seed Runa Reta, who defeated top-seeded Australian Melissa Martin 9-4 9-3 5-9 5-9 9-4 in 59 minutes.

In the other semi-final, Jans took the opening game against Egyptian Eman El Amir, but the 21-year-old from Cairo fought back to upset the local favourite 6-9 9-6 9-6 8-10 9-4 in 66 minutes.
