Second-seeded Teran, the 20-year-old Pan American champion from Mexico City, took the opening point against Hong Kong's top seed Christina Mak, but soon found herself 1-8 down as she acclimatised to being in her maiden WISPA final. The crowd could see Teran's determination, however, as she began to show off her retrieving speed and skills, only to lose eventually 9-7. The character of the match turned at 6-6 in the second, after which the Mexican totally dominated the play, not allowing her opponent another point en-route to her 7-9 9-6 9-0 9-0 victory. "I am very excited to have won my first WISPA title in Pittsburgh, and hope I will continue my success by qualifying in the Greenwich Open later this week," said Teran afterwards.
