Egyptian Mohd Ali Anwar Reda became the only qualifier to reach the last sixteen of the Sky Open in his home country when he upset Australia's Stewart Boswell, the 13th seed, in the opening round of the $147,500 PSA World Tour squash event - the first Super Series Platinum championship of the year - at Sky Petrosport Club in Cairo.

The 20-year-old from Cairo fought for 69 minutes to overturn Boswell, a former world No4 from Canberra, 11-8, 2-11, 11-9, 11-9.

Reda, ranked 43 in the world, will now face the world's top-ranked player - fellow countryman Karim Darwish, who despatched unseeded compatriot Omar Mosaad 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 in just 38 minutes.

At the other end of the draw, second-seeded Frenchman Gregory Gaultier needed almost an hour to overcome unseeded Egyptian Tarek Momen 11-5, 8-11, 11-1, 11-8.

The world No2 from Aix-en-Provence now faces rising Egyptian star Mohamed El Shorbagy, the 18-year-old world No15 from Alexandria who is the 15th seed.  El Shorbagy, eager to make up for his surprise first round exit in the British Open earlier in the month, beat experienced Finn Olli Tuominen 11-3, 11-8, 15-13.

Two second round clashes between England team-mates will entertain the crowds at the Sky Petrosport Club:  Eighth seed Adrian Grant will take on 12th seed Alister Walker after the pair overcame qualifiers in marathon battles.

London left-hander Grant fought off New Zealander Campbell Grayson 11-7, 11-5, 3-11, 11-4 in 77 minutes, while Walker recovered from a game down to beat compatriot Tom Richards 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8 in 60 minutes.

James Willstrop, the tenth seed, was taken the full distance by Farhan Mehboob before beating the rising Pakistani 9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 in 71 minutes.  Meanwhile, Barker was also taken to five by Hisham Mohd Ashour before overcoming the experienced Egyptian 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-9 in 78 minutes.
