Pam Punishes Charman In Houston

Scotland's Pamela Nimmo caused the biggest upset in the first round of the Women's Texas Squash Open when she fought back from a game down to beat England's sixth seed Linda Charman in four games in Houston, USA.

Playing some of the best squash of her career, Nimmo delighted the capacity crowd with her 68-minute 6-9 9-3 9-7 9-7 dismissal of Charman, the world No6 from Eastbourne.  The 26-year-old from Edinburgh is fighting back to top form after a series of injury setbacks, and made it though to the main draw after another upset over higher-ranked New Zealander Shelley Kitchen in the qualifiers.

Nimmo now meets fourth seed Natalie Grinham in the quarter-finals after the Australian beat England's Jenny Duncalf 9-3 7-9 9-7 9-1.

There was another English upset when unseeded Vicky Botwright unseated English compatriot Fiona Geaves, the fifth seed, 9-3 9-6 9-3.  "I have had ups and downs in playing this year but I am definitely looking for an up in Texas," said Manchester-based Botwright after her 32-minute victory.

France's Isabelle Stoehr made a disappointing exit from the WISPA Gold event when she was forced to retire after winning the first game against England's eighth seed Rebecca Macree.  Early in the second game, the players collided accidentally with Stoehr tripping and falling to the floor onto her right shoulder.  The world No13 was clearly in pain and after resting for 20 minutes in the hope of recovering, she decided to default the match.
