Hong Kong siblings Annie Au and Leo Au have thrilled the crowds at the Hong Kong Squash Centre by taking local interest in the Buler Challenge Cup through to both the men’s and women’s semi-finals.

Annie, top seed in the women’s $16,000 WISPA World Tour event, followed an 18-minute first round win by despatching Australia’s fifth seed Lisa Camilleri 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 in just 16 minutes in today’s (Thursday) quarter-finals in Hong Kong.

The 21-year-old world No17 now faces Malaysia’s No3 seed Delia Arnold for a place in the final.

There is local interest too in the other semi where Joey Chan takes on Australian Donna Urquhart.  Fourth seed Chan defeated Malaysia’s Siti Munirah Jusoh 11-6, 11-6, 11-6, while second seed Urquhart overcame fellow Antipodean Kylie Lindsay, the No8 seed from New Zealand, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4.

Unseeded in the men’s $6,000 PSA World Tour event, Leo Au pulled off a sensational first round upset by ousting top-seeded Egyptian Karim AGA Samy.

The 20-year-old world No174 then maintained his giant-killing run today when he beat another Egyptian, eighth seed Ahmed Hawas, 14-12, 11-2, 11-2 to set up a semi-final clash with fourth seed Omar Abdel Meguid, also an Egyptian.
