A trio of players from Cairo claimed places in the main draw of the HH Sheikh Saad Abdullah Al-Sabah Trophy, The Patriarch Amir, Kuwait Open after Egyptians dominated the qualifying competition for the $172,500 PSA Super Series squash event which will take place in Kuwait from 28 October to 2 November.

Players from 17 nations met at St George's Hill Lawn Tennis & Squash Club in Weybridge, England, to challenge for eight qualifying places available in the eighth Super Series event of the year - the championship which spearheads the Professional Squash Association's recently-announced three-year agreement with Sheikha Fadia Al-Sabah of Kuwait.

Former world No13 Mohammed Abbas led the Egyptian assault. Out of action for most of the past year with a foot injury, 29-year-old Abbas showed signs of his former form as he despatched England's Joey Barrington 11-7, 11-6, 11-2.

On the eve of his 27th birthday, Omar Abdel Aziz battled for 55 minutes to overcome South African Stephen Coppinger 11-6, 11-9, 11-6.

But the most fortunate Egyptian qualifier was Mohd Ali Anwar Reda. At two games down to lower-ranked Robbie Temple, the 21-year-old world No28 looked to be heading for the event's biggest upset when the English left-hander sustained a cut to his chin after an accidental clash.

After a 40-minute break, the pair returned to the court, but Temple - ranked 65 in the world - was unable to exert any further pressure and was forced to withdraw after 86 minutes of playing time with the score standing at 9-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-0, 1-0.

Popular Spaniard Borja Golan is another player fighting his way back to earlier form after a long lay-off following major knee surgery. The former world No10 - the highest-ranked Spaniard of all-time - despatched Australia's Aaron Frankcomb 11-9, 11-2, 11-5 to claim his first appearance in a Super Series event this year.

The longest win of the day, however, was claimed by Hungarian number one Mark Krajcsak, the world No47 from Budapest who twice came from behind to overcome Malaysian Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan 9-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8 in 109 minutes!

Rising Swiss star Nicolas Mueller made up for some disappointing recent results on the PSA Tour by beating St George's stalwart Tom Richards. The Englishman, ranked 31 in the world and looking for his fourth appearance in a Super Series event this year, was unable to match Mueller's fire-power as the world No38 from Zurich battled through to an 11-6, 11-9, 2-11, 11-6 victory.
