Tranfield Crushes Kawy In Vegas

Only days after pulling off a string of upsets to lift the Squashworks Open title in Salt Lake City, England's Jenny Tranfield continued her giant-killing run in the USA when she crushed second-seeded Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy in the quarter-finals of the 'Bright Lights' Women's Las Vegas Squash Open in Nevada.

Tranfield's powerful 9-0 9-3 9-2 victory over the world No10 takes the eighth seed into a semi-final against New Zealander Shelley Kitchen - who also upset the seedings by denying England's third seed Vicky Botwright a chance of a place in the last four.

Fifth seed Kitchen is also enjoying a good run of form, with a US title success this month in the Hyder Open in New York.  The 24-year-old from Auckland fought back from a game down to beat Botwright 8-10 9-4 9-2 9-1.

The other semi-final will be the all-English affair predicted by the seedings.  Top seed Rebecca Macree comfortably beat her sixth-seeded compatriot Stephanie Brind 9-1 10-9 9-5, but fourth seed Jenny Duncalf was made to fight hard for her victory over Ireland's seventh seed Madeline Perry.  The former European Junior champion from Harrogate in Yorkshire twice had to come from behind before clinching her 4-9 9-7 5-9 9-5 9-3 win.
