After Malaysia claimed both individual gold medals in the Squash Championships in the Asian Games, Pakistan denied the country a clean sweep by winning the men's title in the inaugural team championships in Guangzhou, China.

Nicol David, the 27-year-old from Penang who has topped the women's world squash rankings since August 2006, successfully defended her Asian Games title with an 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7 over Hong Kong's Annie Au. It was 21-year-old Au's first appearance in the women's final, but David's third title since 1998.

Runner-up to fellow Malaysian Ong Beng Hee in the 2006 Games in Qatar, Mohd Azlan Iskandar clinched the men's crown for the first time after his 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 victory over Aamir Atlas Khan, a 3/4 seed from Pakistan who upset Beng Hee in the semi-finals.

But Atlas Khan avenged his defeat in the men's team championship final, beating Iskandar 14-12, 15-13, 11-4. Earlier, team-mate Farhan Mehboob had defeated Ong Beng Hee in straight games to lead to a glorious gold for Pakistan.

After Low Wee Wern won the opening match in the women's team final against Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu, team-mate Nicol David continued her unbeaten run in Guangzhou by beating Annie Au for a second time to give Malaysia their third gold.
