Susie Simcock Honoured In Queen's Birthday Awards In New Zealand

The World Squash Federation Emeritus President Susie Simcock has been made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the Queen's Birthday Honours announced earlier this month.

Mrs Simcock, from Auckland, served with distinction as President of the WSF for a maximum term of six years from 1996, before which she was a Vice President of the sport's world body for seven years.  The universally popular Simcock, now Emeritus President of the Federation, received her award "for services to sports administration and squash".

"This is tremendous acknowledgment of the distinguished service Susie has given to our sport for most of her life, and in particular to her total service of fifteen years on the Management Committee of the WSF," said Jahangir Khan, her successor as President.  "Her work within the Olympic family on behalf of our sport has been outstanding.  I know that everybody in squash will want to join me in offering sincerest congratulations to Susie for this magnificent and richly-deserved award."

Simcock feels that she has been incredibly lucky to have been able to pursue her passion for Sport generally - but especially Squash.  "Certainly squash has opened doors to many wonderful opportunities and experiences, both internationally and here in New Zealand.  Most important to me has been the opportunity to work with so many special people.  It has been, and continues to be, great fun and a huge privilege," said Susie Simcock on hearing the news of her honour.
