Ross Sets Record As Cameron Crashes In California

England's unseeded Stacey Ross pulled off a dramatic upset over Australia's fourth seed Cameron Pilley in the quarter-finals of the DARE Santa Barbara Open Squash Championship in Santa Barbara, USA - and also claimed a place in squash history by establishing a record for the longest match under the PSA's new 11-point scoring system.

The 30-year-old from Surrey won the first two games with good attacking play but then allowed himself to become drawn into Pilley's style of longer rallies.  The Australian fought his way back into the match by dominating the third and fourth games by lengthy rallies, mainly straight backhand lengths shot after shot.

Pilley fought back from 0-8 down in the decider to lead 9-8 before making a couple of errors which swung the advantage back to the Englishman.  In the third successive PSA Tour event in which he has claimed upsets, Ross went on to secure his historic 11-6 11-7 9-11 6-11 11-9 victory in 113 minutes.

Ross faces Alex Gough for a place in the final after the second-seeded Welshman gained a comfortable 11-5 11-9 11-4 victory over Belgium's Stefan Casteleyn.

The other semi-final will feature Australia's defending champion Paul Price and Canada's eighth seed Matthew Giuffre.  Price dominated the 'T' in his quarter-final against sixth-seeded Canadian Viktor Berg, coming through as the winner 11-7 11-7 11-7 in 37 minutes.  Giuffre, who becomes Price's third successive Canadian opponent in the event, needed 64 minutes to quash unseeded Egyptian Karim Yehia 11-7 1-11 11-8 9-11 11-5.
