Horner & Leifels Win Swiss Open Titles
While England's Suzanne Horner, the top seed, claimed the women's title in
the 30th Swiss Open Squash Championships in Geneva, the men's trophy went to
German qualifier Stefan Leifels.
Horner, from Yorkshire, ended compatriot Laura-Jane Lengthorn's brave run in
the event by defeating the 19-year-old third seed and twice British Junior
champion from Lancashire 9-2 9-6 9-0. It was Horner's first WISPA World Tour
title success since celebrating her 40th birthday last month, and the 24th of
her career after claiming her first, the North of England Open, in 1988.
Stefan Leifels also made his mark in the squash record books by becoming the
first German to win a PSA Tour title for six years. Leifels made his
breakthrough in Geneva when he beat top seeded Australian Raj Nanda in the
semi-finals.
In the final, he defeated unseeded Spaniard Constantino Casas 15-10 15-11
15-9 to claim his second Swiss Open title after first winning the trophy in
1995.
