Lee Beachill Begins Recovery
Lee Beachill, the two-times British squash champion who underwent ankle
surgery two weeks ago, is on the road to recovery after having his plaster
cast and stitches removed today (Tuesday).
"After two weeks of total inactivity, I can at last start walking again,"
said the world No8 on his official website www.LeeBeachill.com
"I guess it's gone better than I expected," said the delighted 25-year-old
from Pontefract in Yorkshire, who was told he'd be out of action for a total
of eight weeks after the keyhole surgery repair of a tendon in his right
ankle. "My ankle's in a brace now, so I can look forward to gentle movement
and working on an exercise bike - basically anything that doesn't involve
bouncing on my toes.
"Luckily my consultant likes to get his patients up and walking as soon as
possible - I'd certainly prefer to get up and get on with it, which is
exactly what he's told me to do," added Beachill. "I'm due to see him again
in four weeks, after which I hope I'll be able to start running."
Despite an MRI scan early in February which revealed a rupture in a tendon in
the ankle, Beachill was able to reach his third British National
Championships' final in a row in Manchester, where he came close to extending
his record two successive titles before being beaten in five close games by
his Commonwealth Games Men's Doubles Gold medal-winning partner and world No1
Peter Nicol.
The England international expects to be back in action for the Super Series
Finals in London in the middle of May, though he is not ruling out being
ready for the PSA Masters in Qatar at the end of April.
