Samantha Strikes In Calgary Open

Unseeded Mexican Samantha Teran caused a significant upset in the Women's Airdre Chrysler Calgary Squash Open when she defeated home hero Alana Miller, the No2 seed, in the first round in Canada's Alberta capital.

Teran, the 23-year-old Pan American champion from Mexico City, defeated the Canadian National champion 9-0 9-5 2-9 9-2 in 56 minutes - and now meets another Canadian Melanie Jans Burke for a place in the last four.

South Korean star Lee Hai-Kyung also claimed a notable scalp when she defeated eighth seed Margriet Huisman 9-5 10-8 9-5 in 45 minutes.  The 29-year-old qualifier from Seoul goes forward to face England's Lauren Briggs, the top seed who took just 21 minutes to knock out Canadian Ashley Clackson 9-1 9-0 9-2.
