PSA Tour veteran Ryan, the seven-times Irish National champion who is the eighth seed in Doha, twice had to come from behind to topple top-seeded Egyptian Mohammed Essam Hafiz 4-15 15-10 13-15 17-14 15-6 in 63 minutes. His semi-final opponent survived an even longer encounter. Seventh seed Joey Barrington was 2-0 down before he mounted his winning campaign against fourth seed Glenn Keenan, eventually beating the Australian 7-15 13-15 15-10 15-13 15-5 in 90 minutes. England's fifth seed Alex Stait upset the form book in the lower half of the draw when he defeated Pakistan's third seed Ajaz Azmat 15-10 15-12 11-15 15-8 in 52 minutes. His win takes him into a semi-final against Australia's Marcus Smith. The No2 seed was taken the full distance by French qualifier Laurent Elriani but finally took his predicted place in the semi-finals with a 15-8 11-15 11-15 15-3 15-5 victory in 55 minutes.
