Farrukh Flays Shabana In Peshawar Opener

Pakistan's unseeded Farrukh Zaman scored the biggest scalp on the opening day of the $25,000 CAS International Squash Championship in Pakistan when he dismissed top-seeded Egyptian Amr Shabana in five games at the PAF Complex in Peshawar.

Shabana, the world No12 from Cairo who is riding high after winning the Spanish Open in June, led after the first and third games - but Peshawar-based Farrukh refused to be overawed as he fought through to his stunning 14-15 15-13 13-15 15-8 15-6 victory in 66 minutes.

There were mixed fortunes, however, for the cousins of the 20-year-old world No44.  Seventh seed Shahid Zaman, who was due to face Farrukh in the next round, slumped to a 10-15 15-6 6-15 15-5 15-10 defeat in 69 minutes to Malaysia's Moh'd Azlan Iskandar - while Mansoor Zaman, the third seed, survived a five-game clash with compatriot Majid Khan, a qualifier, to win 15-14 12-15 11-15 15-4 15-13 in 65 minutes.
