Drakenberg & Briggs Bag Geneva Upsets

Sweden's Christian Drakenberg and England's Lauren Briggs claimed unexpected places in the semi-finals of the Swiss Open Squash Championships after contrasting upsets in Geneva.

Drakenberg, the seventh seed, brushed aside Australia's third seed John Williams 15-12 15-12 15-12 to earn a semi-final slot against Jan Koukal, the second seed from the Czech Republic.

Briggs, however, had to fight back from 1/2 down to overcome fourth-seeded compatriot Rebecca Botwright 9-0 5-9 3-9 9-4 9-5 to gain a semi-final meeting with top seed Annelize Naude.

The other women's semi-final will feature Belgian qualifier Charlie de Rycke and Laura-Jane Lengthorn, the No2 seed from England who is bidding to reach the final for the second successive year.
