Hosts Mexico Claim Pan Am Double

Hosts Mexico reached all four finals of the 2004 Pan American Squash Championships in Tepic - and claimed gold medals in both the Men's team event and Women's individual championship.

Favourite Samantha Teran, 22, from Mexico City, defeated USA's No2 seed Meredeth Quick 9-5 9-3 9-2 in the women's final to reclaim the title she first won two years ago in Ecuador.

Third seed Eric Galvez, the Mexican No1, battled through to the men's final where he faced Argentina's Jorge Gutierrez, the fourth seed.  Winner of the title in 2001 and 2002, 24-year-old Gutierrez repeated his victory in the 2002 final over Galvez to clinch his third title in four years in a 10-9 9-6 9-5 scoreline.

Galvez claimed some consolation when he led Mexico to the men's team final after crushing second seeds Argentina in the semi-finals.  With holders Canada ousted in the quarter-finals, Mexico beat Colombia - victors over top seeds USA in the semi-finals - 2/1 in the final.

Favourites USA made it a hat-trick of consecutive titles in the women's team event after defeating Mexico 2/1.
